Spiritual Support

Spiritual Support Services at Hospice of Laramie is intended to offer patients, families and caregivers opportunities to find meaning, purpose and comfort within the dying process. Spiritual care is patient- and family-focused, guided by the belief systems and wishes of those requesting Hospice services. Listening closely, recognizing, identifying and working through spiritual and emotional challenges while helping patients and families to engage their wisdom and strength through challenging times undergirds our spiritual support. Spiritual services offered include, but are not limited to, at the patient’s and family’s request:

  1. Individual and/or family counseling to address spiritual/religious/emotional concerns or challenges
  2. Mindfulness and/or meditation training to support spiritual, emotional and physical well-being as well as to lessen anxiety, depression and exhaustion in challenging times
  3. Offering daily prayer for the patient, family and caregivers
  4. Time-of-death visit and/or prayers for the deceased, family and caregivers
  5. Companioning, spending time with the patient, family and/or caregivers
  6. Facilitating communication between you and your preferred religious or spiritual community e.g., assisting with having Eucharist served to patients and caregivers
  7. Assisting with the exploration of Scripture consistent with the patient’s, family’s and/or caregiver’s faith tradition(s) to help find meaning, purpose and comfort through the dying process
  8. Assisting with planning and developing traditional or alternative funeral services e.g., green funerals, distance funerals, delayed funerals and celebrations of life
  9. Officiating funerals and celebrations of life.

Our spiritual support person is an integral member of Hospice’s multi-faceted medical team, working together to bring the most effective and compassionate palliative care to our patients and families.

Weekly Community Prayer Meeting

Thursday evenings at Hospice of Laramie: A community prayer meeting for the wellbeing and alleviation of suffering for our past, present, and future patients as well as their loved ones. The meetings are held every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at our Hospice of Laramie House, 1754 Centennial Drive. This is open to all faiths, and to those of no particular faith.
