Financial Matters

Many end-of-life experts as well as patients and families consider hospice to be the gold standard for end-of-life palliative care with hospice care. Not only do family members consistently report the quality of hospice care to be excellent.  Compared to traditional care for the terminally ill and the use of advanced directives, such as living wills and medical powers of attorney, hospice care could potentially save up to 10% of the cost of care in a patient’s last year of life, 10-17% in the last 6 months, and 25-40% in the final month.

Comfort Care Expenses

Hospice of Laramie is a Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans’ Administration certified provider of care for patients who’ve been diagnosed with a terminal illness and based on the medical judgement of their primary health care providers, are felt to have six months or less to live.

Hospice services are also covered by most private insurance companies based on the insured’s coverage.

Donations – There is a large gap between reimbursed costs and the actual cost of hospice in-patient care.  We cannot bill the patients for these differences, so we rely on the generosity of our community to help make up the difference that will allow us to provide the best end-of-life care possible.  We are grateful to our donors, whether the gift is large or small.
