We Have Two Types of Volunteers
Patient Companion Volunteers
Hospice volunteers provide compassionate companionship, respite care, errands, and general support to patients and families—not medical care—usually for just a few hours a week, making a meaningful difference in their lives. Volunteers should have strong people skills, good communication, and a desire to help both independently and as part of a team, with assignments tailored to interests and availability. After gaining experience and meeting competencies, volunteers can apply for advanced roles involving bereavement support and end-of-life care, which require additional training. Volunteers may also assist with reception and clerical tasks. Because extensive training takes about three months, a minimum one-year commitment is requested, and Hospice covers costs for background checks, testing, and immunizations, with ongoing training provided.
Community Volunteers
If you’re interested in supporting Hospice of Laramie but are unable to commit to the extensive training or time requirements needed for direct patient and family care, becoming a community volunteer is a valuable way to contribute. Community volunteers do not require formal training and play a crucial role in supporting our mission by assisting with fundraising events and outreach efforts. Typical tasks include delivering posters, helping with event setup and cleanup, and providing hands-on support during events to ensure their success. Additionally, community volunteers may offer assistance with clerical and administrative duties at Hospice House, helping to keep daily operations running smoothly. This flexible volunteer opportunity allows you to make a meaningful difference in the community while accommodating your schedule and availability.
